Our History
The Lettucehead Food Company has been bringing health and wellness to the Buena Vista community for over 10 years. Prior to becoming the Lettucehead, Nancy Locke founded The Pantry in 1985 to bring organic groceries to the community of Buena Vista. The Pantry was sold to Michelle Henneke in 2000 and evolved into Nature's Pantry.
In 2009, Tom Liverman took over and eventually changed the name to The Lettucehead Food Company to honor the history of the valley. Head Lettuce Days was a local celebration in the early- to mid-1900s in the Buena Vista area, born from the booming lettuce growing industry at the time. Head lettuce farming began in 1919 when the altitude, soil, and irrigation was deemed ideal for lettuce growth. Buena Vista named their lettuces Buena Kist, which is reflected as our bulk food brand today.
In 2021, Tom passed on the baton to Adam and Anna Heinauer. Lovers of food, yoga, and the mountains, Adam and Anna aim to share their passion for nutrition and well-being with the community and visitors of Buena Vista.
Our Story
2020 was a year of reflection for many. In that time, we felt the pull of the mountains and the desire to be a part of a small community to live our best life and be our best selves. As a health coach and yoga instructor, Anna hoped to expand her reach and share the foundations of well-being that guide our days. We fell in love with Buena Vista and the thriving community that emphasizes preserving and enjoying the great outdoors and living life to the fullest.
When we heard about the Lettucehead, we jumped at the opportunity to expand on the incredible icon that is the Lettucehead Food Company. We strive to make the Lettucehead not only your one stop shop for grocery shopping, but also a community to share tactics and knowledge on healthy and sustainable living.
When we aren’t working or talking Lettucehead, we are likely planning our next meal. You’ll also find us on Buena Vista’s hiking trails chasing after our precocious pup, Ash.
